![]() ![]() Joel was a great snorkel guide, and the experience he offers was a 10/10. He's a native, so he is also very familiar with the area, its history, and the marine life. You might also get a chance to check out an area with harmless leopard sharks (he'll ask you if you're comfortable with that). We saw tons of garibaldi and several other fish species, along with several sea lion close encounters (including a curious younger one swimming in a cave), and in one cave there were a bunch of lobster and even an eel. We also went through the kelp forest-it was beautiful seeing it sway in the current, and we saw a few sea lions there. If you're adventurous, he gives you clear instruction on these entrances (along with every other step of the tour-another plus). Some caves require you to go through narrow or underwater passages, and he asks you what you are or aren't comfortable doing. Joel brought me right into several of the sea caves in the area. ![]() If you've taken a kayak tour in the area and were disappointed they only take you into maybe one cave briefly, this tour is for you. We also got to stay out in the water for a long time. It made for a more personal experience, and also has the benefit of allowing you to just focus on the tour and your surroundings as opposed to both you and your guide's attention being scattered. Turned out the tour was private, which I typically don't bother with because solo tour experiences are often too expensive. The guide, Joel, was great.įirst, I booked what I assumed was a group tour. It felt like I was going to get something more than a low effort thing like some touristy experiences can be-that turned out to be true. I looked around a bit at the different snorkel tours available, and this one seemed the most authentic based on other reviews. ![]()
